Modern News is Bullshit

Pulled this from one of my favorite sites, JibJab. Yes, it is true, the modern news is Bullshit. What ever happened to presenting facts to viewers and readers and letting those viewers make their own decisions. Instead the “news” shoves politcal agendas down viewers throats to herd them like sheep…and it works.

Celebrities in rehab, political punditry and a mauling at the zoo – this is what we’re calling news these days! This funny satire on broadcast news features Larry King, Bill O’Reilly, Geraldo Rivera and the rest of your favorite talking heads. This just in: modern news is a joke!

Don’t Blame Me…Ass Clown!

Watching TV today I seen a blurb on the news, were a guy and gal blamed “the man” and “society” for keeping them down and working their fast food jobs for 10 years. Damn ass clowns!

I don’t understand why do people want to always blame their short comings on others?

For instance, one decides to slack off in school and fall in with a slacker crowd. They barely pass high school and have no desire to go to college or join the military or provide some other social service. They are forced to take a job at the local McWendy’s and various other restaurants in the local community over a span of about 10-15 years. Lets not even get into why they had to work at various ones over that time.

Now, they blame everyone else for your socio-economic conditions because:

We made them slack off in high school. We told them to be lazy and not apply themselves and provide a useful service to something greater than them. Because we forced them to slack off in high school we in turn forced them to take a job at the local McWendy’s and all the other fast food restaurants in the area. We also forced them to get drunk, do dope or sleep-in every time they were fired from the other 5 fast food jobs.

Give me a break!

Fast food jobs are for teenagers, retired people and folks who really enjoy that line of work but plan to move up in management or own their own store. It is not a long term career path to run the grill, it should be a means to an end. If you are still working the fry cooker after a couple of years and are out of school or not retired, you really need to revisit your internal drive and above all STOP BLAMING US!

Us being those who made the right decisions, who turned ourselves around when we seen ourselves on the wrong path. Cowboy up, and be a man or woman, take responsibility for your current conditions, take positive action and change it.

Parenting Means Responsibility and Accountability

Parenting is one of the greatest responsibilities one can be given. Actions you take and things you say to your children can haunt you and affect them for a lifetime.

I am sorry to say I have been guilty of saying things that I wish I could take back on occasion, but once the round is fired down range it is gone and there is no bringing it back.

However, I do my best to try and be there for my kids when I need them. I tell my oldest all the time he can always talk to me without fear of reprisal as long as he is honest with me. He also understands it will not mean that there will be no consequences, but there will be no yelling or corporal punishment if he is up front and truthful.

That said you still have to be the “bad guy” sometimes.  I try to be my sons’ friend, but that doesn’t mean I require his friendship to remain a “cool” parent. Parenting, like any leadership role, requires you to make unpopular decisions and to stick to your guns.

Some of the worst parenting I see is the uninvolved type. The crappy type of parent that doesn’t have the tough uncomfortable talks about sex, drugs, shady friends and so on. They let their children run crazy without checks and balances. No checks and balances on their behavior, choice of TV or music, friends, even food. Parenting is a 24/7 responsibility.

Responsibility… oh my goodness! That dirty little word that is usually accompanied by, dare I say it, accountability…double darn, almost a dirty word today.

Parents need to be accountable for their minor children. Children misbehave in school; the parents should feel some of the repercussions as well. Kids violate the law due to poor parental oversight; the parent should feel the wrath of our justice system as well.

There used to be a time when a kid’s behavior reflected on the family and in my mind it still does. Families used to take honor in their name and refused to allow it to be tarnished by delinquent activity.

So I hope these uncomfortable talks work out. I pray my son remembers them when he is faced with those tough choices children face today. The reality is the choices they face today are more difficult than the ones we used to have. The social pressures and influences to influence bad behavior are greater than ever before.

Time to go talk to my son and maybe “hang out”.

Accountability…yea that very, very dirty word in today’s vocabulary. Accountable for one’s own actions, how absurd that concept is. In fact asking someone in today’s society to be accountable for their actions is such a major paradigm shift that you would think it was asking for a nuclear holocaust to come.

At the top of the accountability ladder is leadership. A leader is accountable for everything his people do or fail to do PERIOD. Don’t blame it on your programmer, your supply chain or your installer. As a manager or leader you are responsible for your actions as well as the behavior and performance of your employees (on the job of course).

Don’t give me some excuse about lack of applicants or qualified employees in the market. This is horse shit! You’re a manager, recruit your employees, seek and you shall find. If you allow every Tom, Dick and Harry off the street to come in and fill out an application then your going to get an every Tom, Dick and Harry performance. If you want good burger flippers, then go out and recruit good burger flippers. Stop sitting on your ass making excuses about corporate sponsorship, lack of time and other shit.

Get off your ass, get a booth at a job fair, walk the streets, talk to other managers in your line of work. If as a manager, you cannot sell your business and its potential employment benefits to someone, then find a new line of work.

The next time I step into a store (online or offline) and get feed excuses about employee’s lack of performance and ESPECIALLY THEIR RUDE BEHAVIOR…well…it’s a great day…
