This week ends on a good note and begins on a good one. This week was interesting with Monday requiring training for our Government purchase cards and Wednesday bringing Swim Qualification. Ended the weekend with the Turkey Traks 5k run on Futenma Air Station. Finished 4th overall, but to be honest I think the real fast runners did the 10k. This week I start the 10K training plan and work toward that goal.
Kim has been busy planning for Thanksgiving Day. We have about 3 Marines I work with coming over for lunch/dinner with us. Afterwards, Kim and I plan on making plates for all the guys on watch and bringing them some dinner.
Gannon was voted by his cross country team to have the best farmer’s tan and received a certificate for it. Now that was funny, I couldn’t stop laughing when I seen it. After I ran the race today, I think Gannon is showing interest in possibly starting to run again since I told him he would have won his age group and finished in the top 3 overall.
Gavin is a Transformers madman. He lives and breathes Transformers, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. Personally I like Iron Hide, but that’s just me. He is doing much better with his social skills and all his teachers love the cute little guy.
Currently watching UFC fights, so I will close for this week.
This week was another boring one. I had annual pistol qualification which did not go too bad. Been working on getting a good resume built just in case I do call it quits after this tour. Other than that I have been running and just finished an 85 minute run this morning to end out the weeks training. I will be running in the Turkey Tracks 5k race on November 22nd at Futenma Air Station.
Kim has been substitute teaching for Gavin’s pre-school and is getting lots of work lately doing it. She seems to enjoy it and it allows her to spend time with Gavin as well. Took her out to a movie for date night and it was a really terrible movie called Gamer. We stuck to base this time because both of us just didn’t feel like doing anything at all. We had dinner at the Macaroni Grill and then called it a night.
Gannon is still doing well in school and is really falling in love with soccer. He really enjoys playing, practicing and watching the game. The played against Haeburu JH this last Saturday and won the game 3-2. It was a really good game that was back and forth throughout and his team pulled it out with a go ahead goal in the last couple of minutes in the game.
Gavin is very much my son. I can’t deny him when he does things like he did at school this last week. When he was on the playground I guess he decided he wanted to share the scratch on his butt with his classmates. So what did my little fella do? He dropped his pants all the way to his knees and showed his scratch to all. Of course Kim was substituting his class that day and about lost her mind. Needless to say we had to talk with him after school, but oh how funny I thought it was.
Gannon finished the cross country season with a good run at Kadena High School’s course. If he decides to put his mind to it and train in the off season, he will be a very good runner next year. His Brazilian Soccer Club team played Ryuku University JH and they played to a 2-2 tie. It was a very good game and Gannon’s teammates played a really good game. Gannon’s coach has asked him and a couple of the other bigger boys to start practicing with the adult team. He practiced this last Friday with them and held his own, as did the other younger boys who practiced with them. Their coach has been asked to work as an assistant for his high school team which Gannon is very happy about.
Gavin has been doing very well in school with his social skills and some of his art work. He does not seem to have the patience for art stuff, like coloring in the lines. Kim took him and Gannon to the Fright Night here on Camp Foster, but said there wasn’t much to it. She then took Gavin to Trunk-r-Treat and again, didn’t care too much for it. Both events allowed the local nationals on base to participate and it made for a very crowded venue,, which Kim did not enjoy.
Friday had me taking the Combat Fitness Test (CFT) for this semi-annual period. I did much better than I thought. That evening I gave Gannon a ride to the adult soccer practice and helped a couple of other parents line the soccer field for the next days games.
Halloween brought the game and trick-r-treating for Gavin. Gannon was hanging around with friends and walked around talking in the local neighborhood. It rained most of the night, so the kids looked like wet muskrats coming to the door asking for treats. We ran out of candy after about 40 minutes, we had so many people coming to the door. Kim brought Gavin home early due to the rain. Gannon then did some baby sitting and earned a few bucks for some friends who were going to a Halloween party.
Have the pistol range again this week, and that keeps me away from work for about half the day, which more than likely means some late nights this week.
