Not too much going on this weekend or the whole week actually.
At work, the Phoenix fielding is still taking place and everyone seems to be happy with the equipment and the fielding itself.
Some really cool equipment hitting the streets right now and any serious communicator should be like a kid in a candy store.
There is not much else at work, just the usual, getting Marines ready to do what Marines do best.
On the family front, the friends who were staying with us finally left. Kim is already missing them. Me I welcome the peace and quite.
Gannon and I watched the movie “Untraceable†on pay per view yesterday. Really different movie, I actually thought maybe the bad guy psycho would be one of the FBI agents. Anyway, we went to Fuddruckers for lunch and I’m stuffed. The wife and kids are out back playing in the kiddy pool.
Gannon is getting more interested in technology, specifically that related to computers. He has shown an interest in working on some things with me, specifically learning PHP and MySQL together. I plan on buying a book that teaches you by doing little projects. “Hands onâ€, that’s the way I like to learn. So this could be interesting.
The last couple of days I have been tooling around qith Squidoo.
I have had a lens or two at Squidoo since 2006, but never really did anything with them.
I logged in the other day and seen where I had a few comments pending and had a few visitors over the last week for a lens I haven’t even updated in about 120 days.
That said I think I am going to be tooling around with it some more after I read up on some materials I have regarding using Squidoo.
On another note I am getting ready to attend the Focus Marketing Main Event in Washington, D.C., August 15-17th. Really looking forward to meeting some of the folks I have been chatting with online for the last couple years and that have helped me alot.
This week has been a little busy. We have friends staying with us until the middle of next week, so the house is a little busy, noisy and crowded. Which for those that know me, I don’t deal with very well.
Â
So I am tucked away here in my little office space for a while and then will be taking Gannon out to mess around and spend some quality father and son time together.
Â
Kim is taking off to the commissary with Jeanine (the friend) and her kids for some grocery shopping. It is amazing how much food a group can go through in a day two.
Â
Gannon’s report card came in the mail. He did very well. He had about a 93% average. His end of the year state test scores place him in the top 15% for the state.
Â
Since I am still doing the battle of the bulge, I started a website called RunningFat.com.
Â
I plan on adding some of my personal twist to it in the near future, so hopefully some readers find the information useful.
Today I woke to a very wonderful Father’s Day. The weather is good, the kids are happy and most of all, Momma’s happy.
I received the new Will Ferrel movie and a new wallet along with some very nice cards from Kim and the boys. Now I really needed this new wallet, my old one was literally falling apart.
So I sit here now waiting for some files to finish transfering and I wonder how I ever made it this far in life without a father. It seems I am involved with my kids every step of the way in their life. Although not as much as I like to be involved because of work, but none the less I am involved.
So how in the world did I do it, I cant imagine my kids without me. Then again maybe this is self absorption on my part.
As I sit here and wonder, the answer is very aparent and is answered by asking another question. “How would I have accomplished anything with my “Dad”?” After asking myself that question, the answer was clear.
Being a father is being a leader. Being a leader is all about motivating and influencing others to do things they might not otherwise do. That said, having a good father is very much like having a good leader or mentor and having a bad, or in my case absent father, is like having a very poor leader.
So I find that I have accopished what I have because I was not continously exposed to his poor leadership, mentorship and poor example all around.
I would also like to take this one step futher and say that my being molded as a father and a man is very much like how I have developed as a leader over the last 17 years. I have taken all the positives I have seen from the mentors and leaders and in this case, fathers. I have tried to consolidate what seems to work best from them and apply them in everyday life.
So thanks to those fathers and leaders that have given me the knowledge to father my children so they never have to ask the same question I have.
Alright, so now that I nearly have everything situated for Rhinoarticles.com, I have the plan put together for Phase 2, which is adding a paid membership. The paid membership will add many more features to the directory allowing members to optimize their articles that much more with images, video, audio and more.
